Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Colombo – Dambulla - Sigiriya - Habarana (L/D)

Upon arrival, you will be greeted by your Private Tour Guide who will accompany you as you transfer to the hotel. Arrive in Sri Lanka on the afternoon flight. You will be met by our representatives and transferred to Dambulla.
Sigiriya - is a “World Heritage Site” and the 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky” which is perhaps the most fantastic single wonder of the Island. It is also known as Lion Rock because of the huge lion that used to stand at the entrance to the Palace on the summit of the 600-foot high rock. On its summit are the foundations of the Royal Palace, Water Tanks to supply water and all other buildings and at the edges the guardhouses. On one of the stairways the only known ancient work of Sinhala secular painting survived in the form of Frescoes of 21 life sized damsels still shining in their original colours. Evening proceed to the hotel and relax. Overnight in Habarana.

Day 2: Habarana - Minneriya - Trincomalee (B/L/D)

Packed breakfast early morning Jeep Safari in Minneriya National Park - This National Park with 8889 hectares in extent is famous for it large population of elephants in herds of 100 to 150 roaming in the jungle and seen in the catchment area of the lake. Entrance is at Ambagaswewa about 6 km from Habarana on the main Habarana Polonnaruwa road. Office is by the side of the main road. Elephants, about 300 wild elephants, wild buffaloes, wild boar, spotted deer, sloth bear, Sambhur, leopards, crocodiles, jackals, 9 kinds of amphibians, 25 kinds of reptiles, 160 species of birds, 26 varieties of fishes, 78 varieties of butterflies are recorded from the Minneriya National Park.Evening tour to Pigeon Island National Park - is one of the two marine national parks of Sri Lanka. The Island name derives from the Rock Pigeon which has colonized it. The national park contains some of the best remaining coral reefs of Sri Lanka. Pigeon Island was designated as a sanctuary in 1963. Pigeon Island is one of the several protected areas affected by the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004. Overnight in Trincomalee.

Day 3: Trincomalee - Kandy (B/L/D)

After breakfast proceed to Kandy. En route visit a Spice Garden in Matale to see the different spices, which Sri Lanka is famous for. You will be introduced to different spices and shown how some of these spices are grown and processed. After lunch city tour of Kandy, including Upper Lake Drive, Market Square, Arts & Crafts Centre, Gem Museum. Kandy - the hill capital, venue of the annual Perahera. The last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings was finally ceded to the British in 1815. Kandy is an example of the Buddhism's influence in Sri Lanka today. Temple's shrines and monasteries keeping alive Buddhist traditions are everywhere. Visit Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - ever since 4th Century A.D, when the Buddha's Tooth was brought to Sri Lanka hidden from sacrilegious hands in an Orissan princess' hair, the Relic has grown in repute and holiness in Sri Lanka and throughout the Buddhist world. It is considered Sri Lanka's most prized possession. Evening witness the cultural dance show in Kandy. Overnight in Kandy.

Day 4: Kandy - Nuwara Eliya (B/L/D)

After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya. En route visit Tea Factory & Tea Plantation - Tea was first planted in Sri Lanka in 1824 at the Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, when a few plants were brought from China. More were introduced from Assam in 1839. In 1867 a Scottish Planter named James Taylor planted tea seedlings on 8 hectares of forest land, in the Loolcondura Estate. In 1873, the tea export industry of Sri Lanka began with a modest 23lbs being shipped to London. Tea will grow well only on rolling terrain and is classified be elevation into low grown, medium grown, high grown, into 3 main groups. In 1996 Sri Lanka has produced 258 million kgs of tea and has earned Rs. 34,068 million by exporting 244 million kgs of tea. Evening free at leisure to enjoy the scenic beauty of the hill country. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.

Day 5: Nuwara Eliya - Beruwela (B/L/D)

After breakfast proceed to Beruwala via Kitulgala. White Water Rafting - This thrilling adventure on the white water sections of the Kelani River is suitable for amateurs as well as professionals alike. During the river run you will experience the thrill of shooting rapids and the euphoria of making it through. The river's clear water is born in the heart of the peak wilderness reserve and tumbles through a rocky gorge just above Kithulgala. As the river widens, we pass the scenic location used for the film - “Bridge over the river Kwai” filmed in 1956, which is also a great place to jump in for a refreshing swim. Continue to Beruwala & check-in hotel. Overnight in Beruwala.

Day 6: Beruwela (B/L/D)

After breakfast proceed to Madhuganga for a River Cruise Boat Ride. A fascinating creation of Mother Nature is a beautiful inland lake on a river near Balapitiya with a large number of islands providing an idyllic setting for a well spent holiday. After lunch proceed to Galle. Galle - Sri Lanka’s most historically interesting town is Galle. It was a major port until about 100 years, but today still handles shipping and sailing boats in the natural harbour. Stroll around the lighthouse and harbour or visit the old town where you can see the traditional lace makers and wood carvers and purchase some the finest souvenirs. Evening free at leisure by the beach. Overnight in Beruwala.

Day 7: Galle (B/L/D)

Early breakfast and proceed to take the boat from the fishery harbour out to sea. Blue Whales in concentrations not seen elsewhere in the world would be the highlight. A concentration of blue whales of this nature is something which whale watchers can only dream about. During the migration, Blue whales are seen relatively close to shore as the continental shelf is narrow to the South of Dondra. After seeing the blue whales, your naturalist will take you further out to sea look for sperm whales. Even sperm whales sometimes come within a few kilometers of shore. Free & Easy in the evening. Overnight in Galle.

Day 8: Galle - Colombo (B/L/D)

After breakfast at hotel, enjoy the morning at leisure. After lunch proceed to Colombo. In Colombo commence city tour Colombo - a drive through the city taking you to the busy commercial areas as well as the tree-lined residential, Cinnamon Gardens. Visit Fort, the former British administrative center and military garrison, Sea Street - the Goldsmith’s quarters in the heart of Pettah, the Bazaar area, where is also a Hindu Temple with elaborate stone carvings, and the Dutch Church of Wolfendhal dating back to 1749. Also visit the BMICH, see the replica of Avukana Buddha & the Independence Square.

Day 9: Colombo - Departure (B)

After breakfast, transferred to the Airport for the flight back. For late night flights, free at leisure for more shopping.
